Wu jin (Black Tea)
Origin:
Wujin (China Red) is a high-quality Dian Hong (black tea) with the most complex production techniques among all categories of Yunnan black tea. Blended from 18 different tea ingredients, it combines the mellow flavor of Yunnan large-leafed species, the warmth of Fujian medium-leafed species, and the high aroma of small-leafed species. The flavor is delicate and full-bodied, sweet and soft; the aroma is rich and layered, with the base of Longan and a mixture of nectar and many kinds of ripe fruit aroma. The aftertaste is long lasting and elegant.
Flavor Profile: Chinese Red Tea has a complex and well-balanced flavor profile, characterized by:
Malty and Rich: The tea offers a deep, malty sweetness, often compared to the flavor of dark honey or caramel, with a smooth and full-bodied taste that lingers on the palate.
Fruity Undertones: Depending on the specific variety and processing, Chinese Red Tea may carry subtle fruity notes, such as dried apricot, orange peel, or even a light raisin-like sweetness, enhancing its complexity.
Roasty or Smoky: Some varieties of Chinese Red Tea exhibit a slight roasted or smoky quality, imparted by the traditional drying or firing techniques used during processing.
Floral Hints: While more subtle, there may be delicate floral undertones, such as orchid or rose, adding a layer of elegance to the tea's flavor.
Rich Body and Smoothness: The tea's well-rounded, smooth mouthfeel makes it incredibly satisfying, with a creamy texture that contributes to its comforting nature.
Sweet Aftertaste: Wu jin typically finishes with a sweet, lingering aftertaste that leaves a pleasant warmth, making it a tea that can be savored slowly.
Wu jin is known for its diverse regional variations, each offering a different balance of the above characteristics. The leaves are carefully handpicked and undergo a detailed process of oxidation, rolling, and drying, ensuring a complex flavor profile with every infusion. With its rich, malty, and subtly sweet taste, Wu jin is a favorite among those who appreciate traditional black teas and their evolving depth across multiple infusions.
